those words are connected with each other.
don't u agree?
i remember back then during high school.
about 5 years ago, i was in my high school.
and as all of u are well-aware that SBP students have to live in hostels.
the one who's in charge of the hostels are wardens.
and they live by one rule i believe, that is to give hell to the students' life.

one rule that is preposterous,
not to bring handphones to school.
ok, our school only have form4 and form 5 students.
as much as we are foolish back then,
they have no right not to let us bring handphones.
we have our own reasons.

1st- to know the unknown
when u live in hostels, you are quite disconnected from the outside world.
it is like u are living in a nutshell.
u don't quite know anything that's going on outside.
and most of the students are not hardworking and curious enough to go the library to read newspapers.
when u have a handphone, u can browse the net to surf.
not only world news, social, politics etc..
when the world have come global, yet the rules are still set to keep the students primitives.

2nd- to make an emergency phone call
by having a handphone, it will be more convenient for parents to keep track of their children and stay connected.
it will help nurture the relationship between children and their parents even when they are apart.
children, especially teenagers are bound to become rebellious,
they need morale support and attention more than they might realize it.
it helps to have someone close to guide them, and it is more convenient for parents to do their job rather than trusting whole-heartedly to teachers and warden to take over their responsibilities.
for teenagers who are not as tough and strong might get depressed being away from home, and having a handphone might help them getting over their depression.

3rd- the malfunction public phone.
yes, school have provided the students with public phones.
however, let us all count how many of the provided public phones are actually functioning.
a lot of public phones these day have been vandalized and they become malfunction.
with this foolish act, a lot others have suffered.
with that many public phones that are not working, the students are left with so little and they have to line up and wait for their turn.
this will become a disadvantage for them having to waste their time waiting while they can use that time for other purpose.

4th- confiscation are futile
some people have stated that "rules are made to be broken"
even though it may sound uncanny, but for the young minds, it seems like a good idea.
students who have been affirmed that no handphones are allowed at school,
they might as well bring their handphones illegally.
when wardens made the popular "spot-check" and caught the students red-handed,
they will have to confiscate the handphones.
which will bring us to another unnecessary problem.
students will get depressed having to reasons with wardens.
and i believe that wardens just would not accept students reasoning.
they will label that as "rude" with lack of respect for the elders.
i strongly believe that it is not rude when u are trying to make them see ur point by reasoning.
wardens are not open minded enough to listen to what they call the students reasoning as "rubbish".

5th- it teaches responsibility for your own belongings.
handphones do not come cheap.
what more if u buy it with ur own money or been given present by ur loved ones.
u will grow fonder to ur belonging and will take good care of it.
teachers might reason out that stolen item is increasing if the students are allowed to bring handphones to school.
well, i say that it is unnesccessary to do so.
let the students take care of their belonging.
true, there will be risk of getting their handphones stolen.
but what can we do except to take good care of our belonging carefully?
that is real world. if u don't take good care of ur stuff, it might get stolen.
who's not gonna take advantage if let ur precious belonging left unguard?
let the students experience the responsibility.
by doing so, teachers might as well have thought their students not just academic, but life-time knowledge.

thus, we have come to a conclusion that students should be allowed to bring their handphones to school.

haha. my points might not be strong but it is something i've been thinking ever since my high school time.
and i quite regret have to go against it when i wrote my MUET essay.
(i bet the one marking my essay are in euphoria and strongly agrees that students should not be allowed to bring handphones to school that she or he gaves me band 5 for it.)
if i did it differently, what might happen?
